Dr. Anthony Fauci and top officials at the agency he heads scrambled in April 2020 to answer questions about altering the endpoint in a trial testing the antiviral drug called remdesivir, newly obtained emails show.
The endpoint was changed in the middle of the trial from measuring the effectiveness against death and various forms of hospitalization on day 15 to time to recovery through day 29.
Gilead Sciences, which makes the drug, announced the results of the trial in early April 29, 2020. Within hours, Fauci, the longtime head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was trumpeting them to reporters at the White House.

The trial results proved that remdesivir “can block the virus” that causes COVID-19, said Fauci, who didn’t mention the change in endpoint.
Just hours later, doctors and reporters started questioning researchers involved with the trial and NIAID, which funded the study and said its officials were behind the change.
Officials at the agency were not prepared for questions about the matter, according to emails obtained by The Epoch Times and never published before.
Dr. Andre Kalil, an infectious disease expert at Nebraska Medicine Omaha who was helping run one of the trial sites, told Fauci, Dr. Clifford Lane, and John Beigel, all top NIAID officials, at 3:19 a.m. on April 30, 2020, that he had received multiple requests from colleagues and reporters on why the primary outcome was changed while the trial was underway.
“Believe or not, but I even heard nonsense things such as a conspiracy theory that Gilead opened the database and changed the primary outcome to favor the trial results,” Kalil wrote. “In order to prevent more conspiracies, I thought about a transparent and objective way to respond to these questions, so we can all be on the same page.”
The statement he proposed was redacted. NIAID, which released the emails based on a Freedom of Information Act request, cited an exemption that allows the government to shield inter-agency or intra-agency memorandums or letters “which would not be available by law to a party other than an agency in litigation with the agency.”
About two hours later, Lori Dodd, an NIAID statistician, responded by saying she liked what Kalil wrote. Soon after, Beigel, the trial’s principal investigator, said he was “merging the two” in an email that was otherwise redacted and on which Kalil had been cut out.
A draft statement was sent to the Food and Drug Administration, which “cleared with Gilead” a paragraph about the regulator’s “commitment to expediting” COVID-19 treatments and how the agency had been in touch with Gilead about making remdesivir available to patients “as quickly as possible, as appropriate,” the emails show.
The statement was still being adjusted at 3:20 p.m., according to a missive from Jennifer Routh, an NIAID spokeswoman, sent to Beigel, Lane, and others.
“We now have 10 media inquiries asking about why the primary endpoint in the remdesivir study changed,” she said, adding later: “We need a statement to respond as soon as possible. Is this OK to send or is this still under review?”
The draft statement was redacted.
Reporters from the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and the Washington Post, among others, had reached out, with the latter later quoting Dr. Steven Nissen, a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, as saying government scientists shifted the endpoint because they “thought they weren’t going to win, and they wanted to change it to something they could win on.”
Another expert, Henry Drysdale of the University of Oxford, panned the NIAID’s statement, saying, “Whenever I see an explanation like this, when an outcome-switching has happened, that’s fine, but you were not open about this when you reported your quote-unquote exciting results.”
NIAID ultimately sent a statement out around 4:30 p.m., with The Epoch Times being one of the outlets that obtained it.

“Little was known regarding the natural course of COVID-19 when the trial was initially designed, and the initial endpoint chosen specified a single timepoint for evaluation, namely day 14. However, with the growing knowledge during the epidemic, we learned that COVID-19 had a more protracted course than previously known. Further concerns were raised about the reliance on a single time point for evaluating treatment effects,” the agency said.
“While still blinded to treatment assignment, NIAID statisticians performed modeling of what happens if the right day is not picked for assessment, which revealed that meaningful treatment effects could be missed with that primary endpoint. Time to recovery avoids this issue, and the change in primary endpoint seemed appropriate given the evolving clinical data. This change in primary endpoint was made without any knowledge of data from ACTT, before any interim data was available.”
ACTT is the name of the trial.
Biegel, Dodd, Kalil, and others involved in the study wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine following peer review of the results that the change was proposed on March 22, 2020—after 72 patients had been enrolled—by statisticians who were “unaware of treatment assignments and had no knowledge of outcome data.” The change was finalized on April 2, 2020, he said, and the primary measure became one of many secondary outcomes.
On the trial’s official page, the change in outcome was not reported until April 16, 2020.
Additionally, during an April 24, 2020, teleconference that included then-National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins, the original primary endpoint was still listed as the main endpoint, according to slides obtained by The Epoch Times. The data in the slides was listed current as of April 6, 2020.
Executives and scientists from Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca, among others, took part in the meeting. Bill Lee, Gilead’s executive vice president of research, was listed as a “tentative” attendee but it wasn’t clear whether he ended up attending.
Gilead, NIAID, and Fauci did not respond to requests for comment.
The emails also showed that Fauci listed erroneous statistics at the White House.
Fauci “used the old mortality numbers,” Routh wrote shortly after the doctor spoke during an appearance with then-President Donald Trump.
“Just spoke with Dr. Fauci on phone. He confirmed he has the new numbers,” Kimberly Barasch, with the office of the NIAID director, said.
“To be clear though, he USED the old numbers,” Courtney Billet, an NIAID spokeswoman, responded. “And I talked to him just now on the phone and he confirmed we should stick with those in written statement.”
“Fauci was great. Good job to all who prepped him, and thanks for trying to squeeze in the updated numbers,” Dodd later wrote.
“Thanks to all for the help—the process wasn’t pretty but it worked out in the end!” Billet said.
The impact of the trial results was dramatic. Remdesivir was immediately declared the new standard of care, or the standard treatment for COVID-19 patients, in a time when cases, hospitalizations, and deaths were overwhelming some hospitals. No other treatment had received such positive promotion from top government officials at that time.
Before the results were announced, meanwhile, Gilead sent Beigel a press release that the company planned to issue “just before the market opens tomorrow AM.”
“There will be a lot of interest after that statement,” Beigel wrote, sharing the release with Routh, Lane, and others with NIAID.
Fauci quickly reviewed the release and had no issues with it, Routh said.
After the Gilead and NIAID announcements on April 29, 2020, Tomas Cihlar, a senior vice president at Gilead, wrote to Lane thanking him for the ACTT trial “and the amazing work your clinical team did.”
“Congratulations,” Cihlar said.
The first part of Lane’s response was redacted.
“I am glad for Gilead as well,” Lane also wrote.

Fauci talking was like a barrel rolling downhill. Once started, his speech gained momentum, tumbling out faster and faster, bouncing and looping out of control. It needed some abrupt external force to stop it. That force was Vice Adm. Crandall.
“You must govern your passions, detainee Fauci, or we’ll do it for you—with a gag and shackles,” Vice Adm. Crandall said.
Fauci finally closed his mouth.
The first exhibits entered into evidence were the same emails that helped convict Fauci’s co-conspirator, the late Francis Collins. In short, the email chain was a lengthy back and forth between the despicable duo, in which they discussed murdering physicians and health officials who advocated for ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine over potentially lethal vaccines.
“It’s interesting. Did you know, detainee Fauci, that your friend Francis tried to absolve himself of liability by blaming it all on you. What a great friend he must have been,” said Vice Adm. Crandall.
After a brief recess, Vice Adm. Crandall introduced a witness for the prosecution, an infectious disease expert and one of Fauci’s former associates at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
RRN was asked not to reveal the witness’ name at this time, so we shall refer to him as “witness Sam” and omit his name from quoted dialogue. We’ve also used ellipsis to conceal testimony that could betray his identity.
Appearing on ZOOM, witness Sam stated for the record his name and credentials, and admitted he’d been granted prosecutorial immunity in exchange for his testimony.
“Despite your agreement with the Office of Military Commissions and JAG, do you hereby swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God,” Vice Adm. Crandall asked.
Witness Sam assented.
“Do you recognize your former employer in this tribunal chamber today?”
“I do.”
“Will you identify him?” Vice Adm. Crandall asked.
“Dr. Anthony Fauci, grey haired man in orange jumpsuit sitting at that table.”
When asked how long he had worked under Fauci, witness Sam said he had been at the NIADS since 19…
“Twenty…. Is it safe to assume, then, that you know the defendant reasonably well, professionally and personally?” Vice Adm. Crandall asked.
“Very well,” witness Sam replied.
Behind the defense table, Fauci glared menacingly at the viewscreen.
“Let me ask you this: Based on your initial deposition. Did you have a conversation with the defendant on December 11, 2020, two days after the FDA gave Pfizer emergency use authorization on its Covid-19 vaccination?” asked Vice Adm. Crandall.
“I did. Many of us did.”
“And what was the nature of that conversation,” said Vice Adm. Crandall.
“He told me not to take the vaccine,” witness Sam said.
“Did he tell you why?” Vice Adm. Crandall pressed.
“He said it caused cardiac arrest in an alarming number of trial participants; it caused male infertility; it was causing pregnant women to spontaneously abort; and could potentially cause Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. He said that information wasn’t being made public,” witness Sam said.
Vice Adm. Crandall wanted to know why witness Sam, a physician having taken the Hippocratic Oath, had not made Fauci’s comments a matter of public record. Witness Sam said he was bound by confidentiality agreements, and he feared losing his lucrative job.
“This man is a liar!” Fauci shouted. “I never said that, and he knows it.”
Vice Adm. Crandall ordered Fauci to restrain his outburst, but Fauci would have none of it. He hollered and screamed and claimed he’d been “set up.” The admiral had GITMO security escort Fauci from the courtroom.
He then put the tribunal in recess until Tuesday morning.

A compelling new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting that the Western colonial powers have slapped a grand total of over 9,600 sanctions against Russian officials, the state, companies, tycoons and other entities in response to the “Special De-Nazification Operation” to liberate Ukraine, which means Moscow now has more restrictions against it than Iran, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela and Myanmar combined, says in response, this morning President Putin declared: “The calculation was to quickly undermine the financial and economic situation in our country, to provoke panic in the markets, the collapse of the banking system, and a large-scale shortage of goods in stores…We can say with confidence that this policy against Russia has failed – that the strategy of the economic blitzkrieg has failed…Moreover, the sanctions were not without consequences for the initiators themselves…I am referring to the growth of inflation and unemployment, the deterioration of economic performance in the United States and the countries of Europe, the decline in the standard of living of the Western peoples and the devaluation of their savings”.
Along with the failure of this Western colonial “economic blitzkrieg” against Russia, this report notes, it comes at the same time the leftist New York Times just published their warning article “A Biden Blood Bath?”, wherein it assesses: “A recent poll truly shocked me…Quinnipiac University found that President Biden’s approval rating had sunk to just 33 percent…You might argue that this was just one poll, but Biden’s approval is down in multiple surveys…These are just devastating results…We could well be looking forward to a Biden blood bath”—a dire assessment now joined by articles appearing like “Longtime Allies And Clients Snub ‘Hypocritical’ US Pressure to Impose Russia Sanctions”—all of which has now been joined the withering just published Wall Street Journal article “Biden’s Hostility Backfires In Brazil”, wherein it reveals: “President Biden has been in office for 15 months and has yet to speak with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro…It isn’t for lack of trying on Mr. Bolsonaro’s part…But Mr. Biden has declined to take his call and hasn’t initiated one of his own…Guatemala’s center-right democratic government has also experienced this petty colonialism in spades, perhaps because the tyrants in Washington think they can muscle a small country—though it’s yet to yield results…In the world of Biden geopolitics, foreign policy is a tool to settle grudges and advance progressive ideology”.

Also fighting back against the “progressive ideology” being pushed on other nations by “the tyrants in Washington”, this report details, is China, that last week accused the United States of having “a white supremacy ethos”, and whose Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijia plainly stated: “China and Russia are continuing cooperation and exchange activities in science and technology as scheduled…Guided by the vision of everlasting friendship and win-win cooperation, the two sides will advance relevant cooperation in a practical manner…The United States has no right to put its domestic law above international law, still less use it as a pretext to meddle in China’s internal affairs…The United States has been constantly disseminating disinformation about the Ukraine crisis, flagrantly smearing China and driving a wedge between China and Russia with the agenda to profit from the repercussions of its blameshifting and confrontation incited among others…For too long, the United States has been whipping up the “China threat theory” and throwing dirty water at China…But lies remain lies, no matter how many times they are repeated”.
Fully supporting “the tyrants in Washington” and their actually demonic “progressive ideology”, that now demands little baby-children be allowed to change their sex with drugs and surgery without their parents’ approval, this report continues, is Britain, who revealed this past week that British special forces are in Kiev teaching Ukrainian Nazi troops how to use UK-supplied anti-tank weapons—a revelation causing articles to appear in Russia like “London Admits It Is At War With Russia In Ukraine”—are articles appearing at the same time the Ministry of Defense (MoD) revealed former British soldier Shaun Pinner is now the second British citizen captured by Russian military forces—are British citizens whose looming fate was described yesterday by MoD spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov, who stated:: “They came to Ukraine to earn money by killing the Slavs…Therefore, the best thing that awaits them is criminal liability and long prison terms”—and yesterday it saw the MoD further revealing: “An estimated 6,824 foreign mercenaries from 63 countries have come to Ukraine to fight for Volodymyr Zelensky’s government… Of these, 1,035 have been “destroyed”. while several thousand remain…Four hundred foreign fighters are holed up in Mariupol, where nationalist forces, including the neo-Nazi fighters, have refused to surrender…The most numerous group of foreign fighters (1,717) arrived from Poland, while around 1,500 came from the United States, Canada and Romania…Up to 300 people each came from the UK and Georgia, while 193 arrived from the Turkish-controlled areas of Syria”.
Among the latest urgent war bulletins issued by the MoD, this report notes, the most notable of them are:
“Throughout the night, the Russian artillery systems delivered strikes against 315 Ukrainian military targets to destroy 18 command posts, 22 artillery batteries, an OSA-AKM surface-to-air missile system, and also 275 strongholds and areas of enemy manpower amassment”.
“Russian air defense capabilities shot down three Ukrainian combat aircraft: two MiG-29 fighters near the community of Izyum and a Su-25 plane near Avdeyevka”.
“Russian forces also shot down 11 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles near the communities of Klimovo, Nevelskoye, Novotroitskoye, Izyum, Panteleimonovka, Sladkovodnoye and Yasnoye. They also intercepted 10 large-caliber shells fired by Ukrainian multiple launch rocket systems against the community of Chernobayevka”.
Most horrifying of these just issued MoD urgent war bulletins, however, this report concludes, is the one revealing: “Nationalist battalions will form more than 70 mobile groups equipped with mortars with the goal to shell Orthodox churches on Easter Sunday…Orthodox Christians will celebrate the holiday on 24 April, a week after than the feast was held in most of the Western world…The attacks are planned in the Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, and Kharkov regions…The plan is to later accuse Russian troops of mass murder of civilians on this holy day…Several Western countries are aiding Kiev in the preparation of this sophisticated monstrous provocation”—and is a “monstrous provocation” desperately needed by the godless Western colonial powers because of the truthful articles now appearing in America like “Russia Continues To Grind Down The Ukrainian Military And Fuel Resources”, wherein it reveals:
Despite U.S. and NATO stubbornly insisting that the Russian military is a clown show incapable of fighting competently, you only need to note that Russian military units, missiles and aircraft are moving freely around Ukraine. Take a look at the following video that shows a Russian field kitchen and laundry, it shows a capability not widely available in the U.S. Army. We have become accustomed to setting up static bases, mess halls and laundromats overseas that hire 3rd world folk to cook our food and wash our dirty underwear. Take note of what the Russian soldiers do when they enter the mess trailer (they remove their cover and hang it on a wall). This is not a picture of untrained conscripts grudgingly being thrown into battle.
Russian media sites are now filled with videos of thousands of Ukrainian military personnel surrendering and leaving behind large caches of NATO supplied weapons. There also are photos of the passports of two U.S. citizens who were part of Ukrainian units fighting the Russians. It is not clear if these men are captured or dead. The Russians claim they have captured a large number of Western mercenaries in Mariupol and their fate is not sunny. Because the Russians do not consider them legitimate combatants they will not be treated according to the Geneva Convention. (Sounds like the Russians are going to treat them like the despicable U.S. Department of Justice has treated the so-called January 6th insurrectionists.)
Unlike Ukraine, Russia does not seem to have a problem sending more vehicles to the fight:

Here is video of Russian truck and tank columns moving around Kharkov. Where are the videos of the Ukrainian forces attacking and destroying these columns? Do you doubt for a minute that Ukraine would be sharing such material widely if it existed? That is the dog that is not barking. Russia is surrounding and ready to destroy the fragmented Ukrainian Army. Unlike Mariupol, most of these battles will be in open country where the Ukrainians will have little protection from drones, bombers and artillery. Tanks and troops will do the clean up once strong points are eliminated.
Finally, take a look at the British assessment of the situation on the ground in Ukraine.
Pay attention to the gold and black shaded areas. These are the locations where the Ukrainian Army in the east is located and where Russia will attempt to encircle and destroy. Unless Ukraine is able to send columns of tanks and trucks to the east to resupply the beleaguered forces, the Ukrainian Army may be eliminated by the end of May.

Our source, who is in almost daily contact with President Trump, said the 45th President of the United States learned of the slayings on a Saturday evening call with the Russian leader. According to Putin, the Russian military had captured and slain six British and two American nationals who were trying to plant explosives along a main supply route (MSR) stretching from southern Russia to the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, where Putin has waged war on an infestation of pedophile camps.
“Putin told Trump the mercs were chipping away at frozen ground and planning to booby trap the route with ordnance,” our source said.
Putin claimed the “terrorists” were laying camouflaged L9 anti-tank bar mines and No. 6 anti-personnel mines—U.K. weapons–when Russian Special forces caught them by surprise. Spetznas shot and killed two Brits standing guard and ordered the others to drop their weapons and drop to their knees. The Spetznas team leader purportedly spoke some English. He did not immediately execute the rest because Vladimir Putin had left standing orders to interrogate all foreign nationals.
“At least from what Putin said to President Trump, the ‘prisoners of war’ refused to identify themselves. They were dressed in battle fatigues, carrying captured Russian weapons except for the mines, and had British or American accents. They had radios tuned to a frequency used by the Ukrainian army. They’d only say they were independent operators not working for any government,” our source said.
The Spetznas transmitted images of the prisoners to the FSB, Russia’s Federal Security Service, which confirmed the identity of one captive, a former British SAS operative of international fame.
That person was 62-year-old Steven Billy Mitchell, better known as Andy McNab, who came into public prominence in 1993 when he published a book entitled Bravo Two Zero containing an account of a hotly disputed military mission in which he had taken part with the Special Air Service (SAS) during the Persian Gulf War, for which he had been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Bravo Two Zero is also the eponym of a 1999 U.K. mini-series starring actor Sean Bean as McNab.
“Since they would not talk, I ordered their death,” Putin reportedly told Trump on the call. “As I told you last time, I have no wish to harm Americans, but they here trying to stop us from killing these filthy pedophiles. Yes, I understand maybe they don’t really know why they are here, but that makes no difference. Their weapons would’ve killed many of my people. I cannot tolerate this. United States, United Kingdom, German paramilitary coming here to fight for Zelenskyy—it’s not acceptable.”
“President Putin, I understand your position, and would do the same thing. You have no choice, really, and these really bad pedophiles, we have to stop them, in the States and in Russia, for the children,” Trump replied.
“Since they not talk and declare any loyalty, I sent word back to have them shot. Now they are gone, gone and dead,” Putin told Trump, adding that his forces would hunt down and exterminate any and all foreign mercenaries fighting Zelenskyy’s battles.
This incident marks the second time Russian forces have captured and killed American mercenaries in Ukraine.

[Insurgency is the organized use of subversion and violence to seize, nullify or chal- lenge political control of a region. As such, it is primarily a political struggle, in which both sides use armed force to create space for their political, economic and influence activities to be effective. Insurgency is not always conducted by a single group with a centralized, military-style command structure, but may involve a complex matrix of different actors with various aims, loosely connected in dynamic and non-hierarchical networks. To be successful, insurgencies require charismatic leadership, supporters, recruits, supplies, safe havens and funding (often from illicit activities). They only need the active support of a few enabling individuals, but the passive acquiescence of a large proportion of the contested population will give a higher probability of success. This is best achieved when the political cause of the insurgency has strong appeal, manipulating religious, tribal or local identity to exploit common societal grievances or needs.
